This project seeks to raise awareness and celebrate the unique beauty of Jawi alphabets and calligraphy through modern and cross-cultural interpretations. While Jawi shares similarities with Arabic script and Islamic tradition, my approach is deliberately focused on the artistic, calligraphic, and design aspects of the script, steering clear of political, religious, or economic connotations. By doing so, I aim to make the Jawi script accessible and relatable to the diverse community it represents. As a graphic designer, I am deeply intrigued by the intricate structure and flow of the Jawi script. Unlike Roman alphabets, Jawi is characterized by four forms—"isolated," "initial," "medial," and "final"—that determine how each letter interacts within words and sentences. This dynamic quality offers endless possibilities for creative exploration. The project aspires to integrate Jawi script into design-centric and typographical works that resonate with creative individuals while fostering a greater understanding of the script. By highlighting its artistic potential and cultural significance, I aim to instill a sense of shared cultural identity and appreciation among the target audience.
